In 1906, Halsey Willard Taylor and Luther Haws conceived the original public drinking fountain, with the primary motivation being to supply much safer fresh water and prevent the threat of typhoid fever caused by polluted water. Luther's dad had passed away as a result of of typhoid fever precipitated by contaminated h2o.
